HAPPY 39TH INDEPENDENCE TO SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES

October 27th 2018 marks the 39th anniversary since the southern Caribbean island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines waved goodbye to mother country Britain from colonial rule. 
For Vincentians everywhere we look forward to this special historic day. The national colours BLUE, GOLD, AND GREEN give a colourful spectacle at the annual parade at Victoria Park in celebration of our national pride as an independent nation.

OUR NATIONAL FLAG
Green, Gold, and Blue combine with 3 diamonds to give us our flag.

WHAT DO THESE SYMBOLS REPRESENT?
The flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was adopted on October 21, 1985. It is composed of 3 vertical bands of BLUE. YELLOW, and GREEN with 3 DIAMONDS centered in the yellow band and arranged in a V which stands for Saint Vincent. The diamonds recall Saint Vincent as the "GEM OF THE ANTILLES". Blue represents THE TROPICAL SKY AND CRYSTAL WATERS, green stands for THE ISLANDS' LUSH VEGETATION, and the yellow stands for THE ALMOST CONSTANT SUNSHINE & GOLDEN GRENADINE SANDS. 
OUR NATIONAL DISH
The national dish of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines constitutes 2 items. BREADFRUIT and JACK FISH.
BREADFRUIT

Breadfruit is a staple food grown in in many tropical parts of the world including Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It is very rich in starch which transforms into sugar when ripe. The fruit is being roasted, baked, fried, or boil before it is eaten. It can be described as potato-like. or similar to freshly baked bread.

JACK FISH
Jack Fish is a specie of fish that belongs to the CARANGIDAE family. They can found in temperate and tropical portions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans and occasionally in fresh or brackish water. It is characterised by laterally compressed bodies, or a row of enlarged scales along the sides near the tailfin, small scales resulting in a smooth appearance, and deeply forked tail. Many have a bluish green, silvery, or yellow sheen on the body. Jack fish seems to be a special fish to the policy makers of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines  for it to etch its name in our history books.

NATIONAL BIRD
The National Bird of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is the St. Vincent parrot (AMAZONA GUILDINGI).  It is the only type of parrot on the island and is a large beautiful coloured bird about 16-18 inches in length. The head is white, yellow, and violet.

THE ROLE OF MUSIC IN THE CELEBRATION OF OUR HISTORIC MOMENT
1. Musician KENNETH "Vibrating Scakes" ALLEYNE wrote the perfect song "OUR NATION IS BORN" which became an instant national hit in 1979. Please take a listen!

"The song is synonymous with Vincentian independence." "Scates"competed in the first Independence Calypso competition and was crowned Independence Calypso King on October 27, 1979. Special thanks to JAMALI JACK for providing the video and background information about this iconic song.

2. ALSTON "Becket CYRUS" continued the trend that "Scates" sat with his PATRIOTIC SONG "I Love You Saint Vincent" which he released in 1977. The song is a DISCO SOCA arranged by Vincentian musical stalwart Frankie McIntosh.

3. GAMAL "Skiny Fabulous" DOYLE took over the baton and gave us "This Island Is Mine" in 2015. The song was produced by Alex Barnwell of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

4. HAYDEN BILLINGY serenades us into 2017 with his REGGAE patriotic song "Good Life"

In celebration of my 4 years PROVIDING BLOG STORIES TO THE ONLINE POPULATION OF SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES I take this opportunity to showcase a little of my island to my readers. I  wish the government and my fellow citizens a HAPPY 38TH INDEPENDENCE. You are forever in my prayers and thoughts. I miss my island very much but I carry you in my heart forever.

NEWS BUZZZZ! ===> HOPE FOR MONTREAL GOSPEL RECORDING ARTISTES

The GOSPEL MUSIC art form is one of the most pertinent commodities in the entertainment industry. Why so? Music is the epicentre of WORSHIP. Music was originated in heaven and according to the holy Scriptures the chief enemy of Jehovah God and man Lucifer was the head of the choir in heaven before his fall. The book of Psalms reiterates numerous times the need for us as human beings to give PRAISE TO JEHOVAH GOD because Him alone deserves our praise and worship. Suffice it to say that music brings a special ingredient to worship that no other elements can. Jehovah God continues to raise up men and women whom He has anointed to write and sing songs to give him praise and honour.

Being cognisant of the significant role that music plays in the work of God here on earth, a group of gospel artistes here in Montreal, Quebec, Canada has decided to form themselves into a community called ASSOCIATION FOR PROFESSIONAL GOSPEL RECORDING ARTISTES OF MONTREAL.

This NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION  pledges to assist some of the dire needs that gospel recording artistes of Montreal might have with the hope to providing a bridge to make their musical goals and aspirations come to fruition.

FOUNDER:
This organisation is the brainchild of gospel recording artiste of Montreal Miss Clairon Haynes. The organisation is REGISTERED WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF QUEBEC as a NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION.

The very FIRST EVENT is in the pipeline and will be announced as soon as all of the details are ironed out.

MONTREAL GET READY FOR THE LIVING ROOM GOSPEL FUSION JULY 9

It is quite a busy season for GOSPEL MUSIC in Montreal, Quebec this Summer. THE LIVING ROOM GOSPEL FUSION will be brought to you by Mr. Ray Johnson on July 9, 2017 at the CARIBBEAN PARADISE RESTAURANT at 8080 Newman, Lasalle. Please see the FLYER BELOW FOR MORE DETAIL (start time, etc.).

The show will feature The Montreal West Gospel Choir and few other artists on the open mic including the owner of this blog Gospel Recording Artist Miss Clairon Haynes. 

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF LIVING ROOM GOSPEL FUSION
The show is the brainchild of renown Gospel musician Mr. Ray Johnson. In 2010 Mr. Johnson brought his vision of creating a consistent platform to showcase and develop Gospel Artists in the Montreal region. EB Club Lounge was host venue for five years. Back then tickets were sold to patrons who bought their food and refreshments. Doors were opened up to artists on a monthly basis until 2015 when the show was relocated to Caribbean Paradise Restaurant and is still home to Living Room Gospel Fusion.

UPGRADE OF THE SHOW
In the past artists performed on a large stage like a concert setting at the EB Club Lounge. The new location at Caribbean Paradise Restaurant has changed it to an intimate setting where the performers are closer to the audience. The tickets now include DINNER & SHOW for $25.00.

Instead of different main acts in the past, the show is organised to have just ONE MAIN ACT and several persons on the OPEN MIC doing one or two songs. There will be renditions in Songs, Spoken Word, and Praise & Worship.

SUCCESSFUL ARTISTS WHO HAVE GRACED THE STAGE AT LIVING ROOM GOSPEL FUSION!
Every great and successful artist must start somewhere before they get to where they are. Big names in Montreal Gospel such as ZINA EDWARDS, THE FITZPATRICK SISTERS, PRISCILLA FINDLAY, CHOSEN FEW, THE CLARK SISTERS, etc.

SUCCESS STORY
People who have walked through the doors of Living Room Gospel Fusion never leave the same way. Some of them have left the church because they were allegedly hurt by some of the church members but deep in their hearts they still want to have a relationship with God. They have communicated their interest in going back. 

There are also instances where persons just came to the restaurant to purchase something and they ended up staying for the show when they saw that it appealed and ministered to their spirits.

From these two testimonials it is safe to say that Living Room Gospel Fusion is an OUTREACH PROGRAM geared toward evangelising souls who cannot be reached by a church service. Jesus expects us to go and bring the Gospel to them.

"YO LESTER" T-SHIRT BRAND LAUNCHED BY 4TH DIMENSION PRODUCTIONS OF SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES! The Entrepreneurial flame is on fire in SVG!

As a past business teacher of Entrepreneurship as a subject I never thought in my wildest dreams that I will live to see the very core characteristics of being a successful entrepreneur unfold right before my very eyes in my Facebook newsfeed. Two of those "the possession of the go-getter attitude" and "salvaging a business opportunity out of a disaster" have shown 4th Dimension Music Producer Mr. Lester Iroha in  a whole new light setting his entrepreneurial spirit on fire.

For this feature I did not see the need to obtain any information from this entrepreneur since I have witnessed all of the drama relating to this article played out live on Facebook. I am amazed at how swiftly Mr. Iroha was to able to initiate a business from a situation that seemed to have been designed by a caller who called into the Hot 97 radio station 2 weeks ago in his home country Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in an effort to try and dim the bright light that seemed to have been radiating  in recent years from his renown catch phrase and tagline "YO LESTER".

The drama surrounding the "YO LESTER" catch phrase began to unfold on social media via a Facebook post made by Mr. Iroha as can can be seen by the screenshot below:

This post has elicited  feedback from his fan base sizeable who all weighed in by giving their two cents on the issue. Many of the fans were of the strong opinion that this "petty" issue was staged to cause distractions for Mr. Iroha's and his production team as the national competitions draw nigh. "PEOPLE DON'T STONE GREEN MANGO" (Lennox Bowman via Facebook comment). Did Lester catch on to the plot in time to salvage a business brand from this impending distraction? The proverb "out of evil comes good" took on a whole new shade of meaning when Mr. Iroha turned his catch phrase into a t-shirt line immediately after his sit-down interview with Hot 97 SVG.

MR. IROHA'S INTERVIEW ON HOT 97 SVG LATER THAT DAY

There was an interview that was scheduled in the afternoon on "The Afternoon Kickout" show with Lester prior to the incident early in the morning that sparked the drama between Hot 97 SVG, the caller, and Lester. The purpose of this interview was for him to release music from one of his rhythms. However when he took to the airwaves he used the opportunity to address the "YO LESTER" issue which seemed to have been the ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM.

Mr. Iroha cleared the air by maintaining the fact that he has no part to play in the reason why some of the artists whom he produced herald the catch phrase "YO LESTER" in the intro. segment of their songs. "After working with these artist for years they have come to appreciate my hard work and feel the need to include "YO LESTER" in their songs out of respect for my hard word and dedication to them. I do not tell them to say it. After it became an issue I said to one of them, YOU KNOW WHAT FOR SPITE SAY IT THREE TIMES 'TIL THEY TIRED HEARING IT. That was the only time I told them to say it. 

That was suppose to be one time vengeance for being wrongfully accused of something I did not initiate."

As I get to know Lester a lil better I begin to understand why he chose that name for his company because he is definitely multi-dimensional. A civil servant in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, he performs various accounting tasks at the Lands & Surveys Department. He assumes the responsibility of Executive Manager and Producer at his 4th Dimension Productions. "Yo Lester" t-shirt has expanded his base and will certainly open up new entrepreneurial opportunities for him and his company.
THE SUPPORT FROM HIS FAMILY
Mr. Iroha continues to receive full support from those whom he loves. His beautiful and intelligent mother Mrs. Brenda Mc Intosh-Iroha has been his NUMBER ONE FAN & CHEERLEADER in all of his life's goals. A single parent who was left with no other choice but to raise her daughter (the oldest), Lester, and her youngest son Cecil Iroha alone after death has unfortunately whisked away her dear husband Mr. Iroha from the family in 1989 in Nigeria. In 1991 she moved back to her homeland Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with her family and lived in New Montrose, SVG from since that time. The fact that her children turned out to be so well mannered and successful is indicative of the fact that she has done a marvellous job raising them. His younger brother Cecil Iroha is always at his side showering him with love and support every step of the way. They are truly a role model of how family ought to treat one another. Quite an admirable trait! Don't you think?

About the Author:

LIVE VIA FACEBOOK: A VAN IS ON FIRE IN GLEN SVG

This morning as I was i received a notification from one of my Facebook friends that A VAN WAS ON FIRE in Glen, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It was with great sadness that I looked on. Several questions raced for a spot in my mind. Why was the fire truck not on the scene already? Why didn't the onlookers seemed effortless in doing something to bring this burning fire under control? Did they even care that a house was sitting beside this burning van and it can catch fire too?

With the advancement of technology that makes everything noways in our community accessible at the click of a button it is difficult for the human eyes to miss these flaws in human nature when disaster like this one occurs.

Lesson learnt: IT DOES NOT HURT TO BE NEIGHBOURLY!

OTTAWA VINCENTIAN ASSOCIATION PRESENTS: TASTE OF ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES

For many of us Vincentians who domicile away from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines we preserve a little of the rich culture that we were born into by aligning ourselves with a VINCENTIAN ASSOCIATIONS organised within the diaspora. Canada's capital, Ottawa is no exception. The association will host a cultural event under the theme "TASTE OF SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES" on SATURDAY, JUNE 03, 2017 at 379 Waverley Street, Ottawa, ON.


PURPOSE OF THE EVENT
This event was organised with the sole purpose in mind: 
ABOUT TASTE OF ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES Taste of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is presented by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ottawa Association, on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 3:00pm – 2:00am in honour of Canada’s sesquicentennial. With Ottawa dubbed the center of attraction for Canada’s 150th Anniversary, the Association decided to be an integral part of this celebration! In recognition of our multicultural character, we plan to showcase the arts and crafts and the food and beverages of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the wider audience. Taste of St. Vincent and the Grenadines - Everything Vincy – is an exciting cultural explosion of: Art, Culture. Fashion. Food. Music. Shop. Tourism - (The show case of: Art & Craft, fashion, dance, food tasting, musical celebrations, artistic performances and more! The Cocktail-style event will also feature live cultural performances, fashion show, DJ & Live Band, playing Vincy music, prizes, shopping for ethnic fashion all under one roof. WHO ATTENDS 
Taste of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will welcome 300 luminaries from the Ottawa Community including professionals, members of the diplomatic corps, guests from out of town, media and other movers and shakers. Guests to the event will have the opportunity to dive into a unique multicultural atmosphere to savour our culinary delights, connect with our official representatives in Canada and shop ethnic arts and crafts all under one roof. The Cocktail-style event will also feature live cultural performances, fashion show, DJ & Live Band, playing Vincy music. As well as remarks by our Honorary Patron, Mr. Fitzgerald Huggins, Consul General for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Toronto, Mrs. Shelly John, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Representative, Toronto, exciting door prizes up for grabs, shopping for ethnic fashion, a raffle, bidding on special silent auction items and lots more.
